The Delhi government has formed a committee to examine jammer technologies from around the world to determine their effectiveness in blocking mobile signals in jails.
The 10-member committee will be chaired by DG (Prisons) and will include experts from IIT Madras, IISC Bangalore, DRDO, C-DAT, and IB and SPG officers. The committee will suggest the most suitable technology, including 5G network, to the Delhi government for implementation in the jail system.
The Delhi government aims to enhance prison security and eliminate mobile phone use completely. The committee will also study existing mobile networks and propose technical guidelines for installing BTS towers around the jails.
